“Sweetheart, watch an ad to be reborn~”
After enduring a 25-second commercial for some bizarre health supplement, I found myself back in my senior year of high school.
As my vision cleared, the first thing I saw was Lin Yichen, slouched beside me, grinning mischievously. Tears welled up in my eyes before I could stop them.
Lin Yichen immediately dropped his cocky demeanor and, seeing my tears, started to panic.
“Hey, come on, Missy, I didn’t do anything! Why are you crying...?”
I didn’t want to cry, but the memories from my past life were just too overwhelming.
As he fumbled for tissues, I suddenly threw my arms around him.
He froze, his hands suspended awkwardly in the air, his ears turning bright red.
“Liang Suyin, what are you doing...?”
It took him a moment to realize something was off. As he tried to gently push me away, I only hugged him tighter.
“Just let me hold you for a moment, okay? Please don’t move.”
He actually listened and stood still until I finally let go.
After releasing him, I blinked at him playfully. He seemed to realize something, then turned and bolted from the classroom.
Watching his retreating figure, I felt a complicated mix of emotions.
Lin Yichen and I had been betrothed as children, but I never liked him. My unreliable stepmother, Aunt Mei, always told me that my father arranged our engagement purely for business reasons.
At first, I didn’t believe her. But after seeing the Lin family’s wealth and hearing Aunt Mei repeat the same lines year after year, I began to resent Lin Yichen. She convinced me that marrying him would mean losing my freedom, so I started to treat him with hostility.
At first, Lin Yichen tried to explain, but I never listened. By the time we entered middle school together, he’d become rebellious too. Whenever I insulted him, he’d fire right back.
From then on, we became the kind of rivals who couldn’t stand each other.
In high school, I made a new friend, Zhao Wenqing, but Lin Yichen warned me not to get close to her, saying she wasn’t trustworthy.
I still remember the day I yanked my hand out of his grip and told him, “Whatever you dislike, I’ll love.”
After that, Lin Yichen stopped talking to me, and through my so-called best friend, I experienced my first romance.
After college entrance exams, I learned Lin Yichen was going to Qingyun University in Changzhou, so I applied to Mingde University in Hancheng—two cities over two thousand kilometers apart. I never saw the boy who used to annoy me every day again.
In my sophomore year, I finally got my wish and broke off the engagement with Lin Yichen. That very afternoon, I died in a car accident.
Only after my death did I learn that my so-called best friend Zhao Wenqing was actually Aunt Mei’s biological daughter, and my beloved boyfriend, Chen Haoyu, was just a hired actor.
